Clean delivery kits for 60 mothers in Kacheera

Sixty women in their last months of pregnancy, each with a kit packed by a midwife, so no birth starts without gloves and a clean blade.

The need

Kacheera sits on the southern edge of Rakai District, close to the Tanzanian border. For many families the nearest health centre with a maternity ward is more than an hour away, and some babies arrive before the boda boda does.

A clean delivery kit does not replace a midwife. It makes the births that happen on the way, or at home, safer. Each kit holds sterile gloves, two cord clamps, a sterile blade, a plastic sheet, cotton wool, soap and a printed card showing the danger signs.

Our Kacheera Center will hand out the kits at the next two outreach days, together with a birth plan for each mother.
